Today, Coach Woodson and I had a Zoom call where he discussed the importance of recruiting. He explains during his high school years, he looked forward to competing at the collegiate level. He visited many schools until he could find a perfect fit for him. He notices that he uses his experience when recruiting and providing on-campus visits from when he was a young high school athlete looking for a higher level to display his talents. The ultimate purpose is to WIN. Recruiting with a purpose thoroughly leads to recruiting the top athletes, leading to a winning season.
WHO RECRUITS?
Each coach has a section of Ohio and surrounding states looking at specific athletes and their high schools. I was able to see the Excel spreadsheet and how positions break down these high schools and athletes. I was amazed by the organization of the Excel sheet and the many students and their talents. There were even notes about EACH student listed throughout the spreadsheet.
Coach Woodson even recommended that I create an X account. They often find recruits on this app. I noticed with my X account that many college coaches post about different camps, their recruiting efforts, and even scouting student-athletes. I am amazed at the use of social media and student-athletes using it in their favor to get noticed.
Overall, I am enjoying being mentored by Coach Woodson.
