Coach Woodson and I set up a second meeting for the day to go over what we talked about earlier in the day, and from the previous days this week. We planned to have recaps, quizzes and to go over compenticies to make sure I am headed in the right direction. This week he decided we would just simply recap this week, and go through each of the topics we discussed instead of quizzing me. I was able to ask questions and highlight things that I wasn't as confident in that we went over.
WHO RECRUITS?
We went over who recruits certain areas and why?
I remember when looking at positions at different colleges, many had recruiting coaches instead of the assistant coach specifically recruiting. He explained that since Notre Dame College was a smaller college the coaches took on the role of recruiting. He then shared his screen and went over how to go through the prospective student-athletes, their positions, and notes. He also explained that there are different techniques to keep everything organized. Different schools have different methods and techniques. He also explained many schools often train their new recruiters on how it works because they may not have been exposed to the software used.
FILM BREAKDOWN
We spent a lot of time on film breakdown during this time. It's not as easy as I thought it would be. There are some terms and formations I do not understand, but I am sure will all come together over time. Coach Woodson looked over the film and explained certain things he noticed in the specific player he was looking at. I usually do not learn this way, but I retained a lot information this way. I took the same film and mirrored what he showed me on the same film. I wanted to look at a similar position and dissect the film on my own. He noticed I wanted to go through the film too quickly. He expressed that it was okay for me to take the film slowly, and I didn't have to zoom through the film.
SCOUT TEAM CARDS
We then spent time on scout team cards. This time he pulled up an opponent's game-day film. We looked at different formations of the offense and the QB. After we looked over the fil, he began to show an example as to how he would draft up a scout team card. We spent a lot of time on this section. He went over both dissecting the opponent's film and drafting the scout team cards.
