We decided for the rest of the week to focus on NCAA rules and regulations.
Coaches have times when they may physically visit the school the prospective student attends, email or call the parents and student-athlete while they are evaluating the athlete. During the time the student-athlete is being evaluated, there will not be visits or in-person contact with the student-athlete or the parents. And, of course, my confusion set in. Coach Woodson then explained there was a period when coaches were not able to watch the athletes at their school but were able to contact them. There is also a period where there are no in-person contact or physical games to watch, but we can have contact. He showed a calendar of the periods when they were able to have contact, do physical recruiting, etc. Coach Woodson also directed me to the NCAA website, where I could get all the information we went over. I knew of some of the compliance for the NCAA but not the depth of the compliance. He explained each of the periods in relation to his own coaching career.

Coach Woodson would go over the film before attending games and make notes as to what he was looking for in the athletes he went to the school to recruit. He mentioned he enjoyed going to the games in person. He believes he gets a more accurate evaluation in person. He has attended different showcases where athletes can showcase their abilities to different scouts. He mentioned satellite camps where high school student-athletes around Ohio and surrounding areas showcase their abilities. We talked about the different tactics and note-taking he uses at camps as well. He takes note on their height, speed, attitude, demeanor, quickness etc.
