RECAP from the previous week

This is another recap for the previous week! Coach Woodson and I have spent a lot of time meeting via Zoom. I thought this would be somewhat challenging, but it is going well. I am excited as we go through these weeks, and I continue to grow and see some progress.

Looking through assigned areas:

We went over the importance of organizing the spreadsheet when recruiting high school student-athletes. They’re able to cover all the bases of the surrounding areas to make sure they are exposed to student-athletes who would be a good fit at their school. Today, he decided that we should look at X while we were recapping. So I used my X app via my phone, and I typed in different key terms into the search to look at prospective students. Some students may not get the exposure needed from smaller schools in the surrounding areas. There are often times that prospective students from different junior colleges who are looking to be recruited have film on X. Coach Woodson made a note that we would talk about that on a different day. I forgot to mention that to him one day, so I am glad this came up. But back to using the X app. I usually don’t use apps. I follow a lot of coaches, though. We used key terms like “recruiting,” and “2024 high school prospects,” and we added a specific area and other terms related to recruiting. There were many different Hudl links, attached videos, and athletes presenting themselves in a way they’re able to receive the attention needed to get into a collegiate position. We spent a lot of time on X looking over different athletes in the surrounding area.

On Campus visits:

For the on-campus visit recap, we touched base on how the prospective students are chosen for visits. I wanted to talk more about when students come and the overall persuasion of the athlete when they are face-to-face. Coach Woodson explains again how he mentions the amenities surrounding the school, the café, how Notre Dame is a football school, etc. He also mentions explaining the finances/scholarships to the prospective student has a hand in their persuasion. He again said we would have a separate meeting about selecting prospective students for scholarships and how student-athletes are selected for a certain amount of money.

Film Day:

FILM! FILM!

Since it was just a recap, we went over the film videos that we had looked over. He quizzed me on different formations that we had seen in the film and that we had looked over previously. We looked over the same film again. Coach Woodson had me look over this again to see if I felt like I missed anything since the first time that we watched the film. I just felt that I didn’t notice much, and Coach Woodson pointed out things that I should have noticed.
