Well, today was quite an off day and, to me, quite unexpected. I received a call from Coach Woodson that there may be a chance that the school will shut down. I was thinking that there was a COVID outbreak or a threat due to some financial instability. No, there was an actual chance that the school was closing for good. Coach Woodson had me wait until their meeting was over to deliver the news. In the end, the school closed. I wasn’t expecting something like this to occur while completing my mentorship with Coach Woodson. Coach Woodson was more concerned about me being able to complete my mentorship with him than I was about him abruptly losing his current position at the college. We decided that we would just take a couple of days and let him take it all in and come back and start fresh!
This is something that I never would have thought even to happen when choosing a mentor or if I were in a position and the college that I worked for simply decided to shut down. Though I explained to Coach Woodson he has so much experience, accolades and etc he can easily get another coaching position. As I mentioned before, when entering into this program, I have been exposed to many different career choices. There are so many different career options available. Coach Woodson explained that he may explore other options with this same degree. That was a different take. It reassured me that if I wanted to look into a different career after completing a certain amount of experience in a different career choice, I could possibly explore a different path.
