Scholarships/ Financial Aid
As a coach, Coach Woodson mentions visits and how hands on the coaches are in the visits. When a student-athlete commits they have to run through the scholarships and financial aid for the athlete. When students are accepted on a full ride scholarship they are presented with the dollar amount. Some students are accepted on a partial scholarship where it only covers so much. He mentions this is often times based on the athletic ability of the athlete. He then goes into there is a possibility that a student who doesn’t receive a full ride scholarship may have the opportunity to receive one. He notes there had been a student that was recruited. They knew he would be a great fit, but there were times his athleticism was “shaky”. So he received a partial scholarship. He then displayed he was an asset to the team and offered a full ride scholarship with the football team. There have been times when student-athletes go against the policies and proced of the school and athletic department. These students put themselves in a position where they lose their scholarship. This was a very important topic to get an understanding the finances behind being a student athlete.

FILM
We started with positions when we looked over film today. I forgot to mention we are working offense formations and positions and we will move on to defensive formation and positions next week. I felt I did pretty well with identifying positions and purpose of the positions. It made some of the film we went over make more sense. I see how over time it is all going to come together and make sense. This motivates me more to learn as we go on. There are times where I have been frustrated with film, and I question if it’s what I want to do. When we have moments where I am truly learning and understanding I want to push more and learn more.
