Another day, another film. So today, Coach Woodson found a random film, and he quizzed me as we went through the film. I find on-the-spot quizzing very intimidating. We have a very friendly vibe, so I am not overly intimidated, but I don’t like being embarrassed when I get things wrong. He reassured me as we went through the film that it was okay that I didn’t know certain things he quizzed me on. I take a lot of notes during these meetings. I want to be able to watch my progress with film. I take notes on what I need to work on, and what I can move on from. I notice that I get comfortable in the things I understand when watching film and build upon that. I tend to stray away from the things that I don’t know.
Coach Woodson noticed:
-I attempt to go through the video too quickly.
-I spend too much time on things that don’t matter as much as certain things that I should notice.
-Truly understanding formation and personnel
We decided that we are going to spend time on formations and personnel today instead of looking over another set of film today.
Coach Woodson broke down the importance of understanding formations and personnel. As much as I thought, I was confused about the transfer portal. Looking over all the formations FOR OFFENSE ALONE. All I could think of was Charlie Brown sighing, “Good grief”. I understand some formations, but looking over the ones that I had no proper understanding of was very overwhelming. I am going to spend a lot of time on my own to look over the formations. I have always had a difficult time understanding personnel as well. We went over this briefly. We later realized that the next meeting would strictly be based on formations and personnel. We easily spent 3 hours just trying to sort out my confusion and being able to take good notes. We only went over offense, so I can only imagine when we combine offense and defense in a meeting.
