For this week, we will continue to go over the information for the packages and apply it to film.
Coach Woodson again let me lead with explaining what I can remember from the offense formations and different packages. It then turned into a quizzing session. Coach Woodson displayed different formations and still images. I was able to identify the different images. We then looked over defense. We went over the positions for defense, and I explained the positions and what they do. We looked over still images of different defense formations. I was did pretty well
3 hours:
We looked over random film. I had previously mentioned to Coach Woodson how do the coaches present corrections and issues with specific players from the film presented. We wen through the film together. Coach Woodson asked how would I explain to an athlete potential corrections needed to be made. How would I note the mistakes and issues that occurred during the film. He then again explains I am able to go slower when looking over film. If there were an instance where I was pressed for time before practice, that’s different. I have time to look over the film, so I try to look over it more slowly rather than rushing and attempting to take in so much at one time.
Coach Woodson chose a position that I am relatively confident with. He created a scenario where a WR was constantly getting beat by the defense. He asked what I could recommend on the spot during the game if I were a coach. I mentioned this is one of the many reasons behind the importance of watching films. I recommended the WR change their routes. Do not get comfortable and attempt not to make their moves expected. Coach Woodson was pleased with my answer but mentions to be more confident in my answers. He explained the coaches usually get their WR on the sideline and remind them of the specific plays presented during meetings and what the defenders are expecting.
