Today, I spent the day with Coach Woodson. It was very refreshing to meet in person rather than over Zoom. Coach Woodson and I had previously talked about campus tours with prospective athletes. He provided a tour as if I were a prospective athlete. I was able to pick up certain notes more in person than over Zoom. From jargon and mannerisms, I was able to take mental notes as to how I would complete a tour with prospective athletes in my future career. Coach Woodson went over everything at the end the dos and don’ts when completing a tour. I mentioned if I didn’t have answers. He explained that I shouldn’t say I did not know, but I would later contact them with the answer. Make sure to actually follow up with the family and student to build rapport. The most important thing is to build rapport with families and prospective students. You want the family to feel their child is safe if they are a short distance or a long distance away. After going through campus, we just chatted about the recent positions I have applied for. We had another heart-to-heart. We got lunch in the surrounding area. I was able to see the different amenities Coach Woodson mentioned to the prospective athletes to add enticing factors for them to attend the school.
Going over film in person was a little better. I was able to stop him quickly and get questions in front of him quickly. Zoom meetings do not feel rushed, but being in person seems a little timelier. Taking notes was easier, and Coach Woodson was able to correct my notes on the spot.
We agreed that in-person meetings are very beneficial. We discussed the following topics for our meetings. We both discussed how time is really going fast, and we still have a lot to go over. I am very thankful to have had this experience with Coach Woodson. We have planned for another in-person meeting!
